Combating Child Trafficking in the Sundarbans:
Child trafficking remains a grave and growing concern in India, with alarming reports from the Sundarbans. Children, especially girls under 18, are trafficked for labour, begging and sexual exploitation, often driven by poverty and lack of education. While government action continues, NGOs play a crucial role. SIDS organized awareness programs to educate communities, particularly women and mothers, to prevent trafficking and protect children’s rights.
Protecting Vulnerable Children Through Education and Awareness:
In India, 23.6 million children live without parental care and require quality alternative protection. Girls’ education remains a major concern, with 39.4% of adolescent girls aged 15–18 out of school. To address these challenges, SIDS organizes community seminars, engaging parents—especially women—on child protection, child rights, health, prevention of child marriage and trafficking, and the importance of education for a safer future.
Promoting Human Rights Awareness for Inclusive and Empowered Communities:
Human rights are fundamental to dignity, equality, and freedom, guaranteeing every individual the right to life, liberty, education, work, and expression without discrimination. To strengthen community awareness, mass human rights camps were organized alongside school sessions to educate children and youth about their rights. A dedicated women’s workshop addressed gender-based discrimination, empowering women to challenge structural barriers and confidently claim their basic rights.
