Promoting Safe Roads, Saving Lives: SIDS Road Safety Initiative:

Shibganj Integrated Development Society (SIDS) has been actively promoting road safety awareness over the last three years through its theme, “Road Safety – Jeevan Raksha.” During 2020–21, 2021–22, and 2023–24, SIDS organized webinars, quiz contests, leaflet distribution, drawing competitions, and slogan writing events. These activities aimed to educate people on government road safety rules, encourage responsible walking and driving habits, and foster a positive attitude towards protecting lives on the roads.

Caring for the Forgotten Elders of the Sundarbans:

Elderly people in the Sundarbans face severe hardship due to poverty, food insecurity, health issues, repeated cyclones, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Changing family structures have left many older persons helpless and without care. To address this need, 50 poor elderly beneficiaries from four villages under Pathar Pratima block were selected with community participation. With support from Benevity Causes, Canada, each beneficiary received a winter blanket and essential dry ration to ensure dignity, warmth, and food security.

Promoting Informed Choices through Consumer Awareness:

Consumer awareness is essential in today’s market-driven society, where misleading advertisements often influence purchasing decisions. To empower consumers with knowledge about product quality, services, and consumer rights, SIDS organized a few seminars in Pathar Pratima block areas. Local residents, students, Panchayat members, SHG members, youth clubs, and others participated. Awareness was further strengthened through wall writings at key locations across the GP area.

Empowering Unemployed Youth through Carpentry Skills Training:

Creating income opportunities for unemployed poor youth is a key focus of SIDS. A three-month vocational training on carpentry was organized for eight underprivileged youths to build basic skills and interest in woodworking—one of humanity’s oldest trades. The trainees learned to work on doors, windows, flooring, roofs, and other wooden components. However, due to lack of funds, the ideal six-month advanced furniture-making course could not be completed.
