Genesis of the
Organization

Shibganj Integrated Development Society (SIDS) was born on 1st April 2005 from the collective conscience of a few sensitive and committed youths of the island villages. They were deeply shaken by the harsh realities surrounding them—premature deaths of poor people caused by hunger and starvation, and a tragic incident where a pregnant woman, broken by domestic abuse, took her own life. They also witnessed how poverty, illiteracy, and lack of awareness were pushing children from deprived families into illegal and destructive activities. These painful experiences ignited a shared resolve among the youths to stand against social injustice by awakening the community, spreading the light of education, empowering women, and improving the overall economic condition of the region.

Among them, Mr. Subimal Karan, a leading youth and the present Secretary of SIDS, clearly understood that true and sustainable development would remain a mirage unless women were freed from deep-rooted gender-based discrimination. With this vision, a group of dedicated youths came together under his leadership to form Shibganj Integrated Development Society. The organization began its humble journey in two villages of the Pathar Pratima block in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, with a strong commitment to social transformation. Rooted in compassion and driven by hope, SIDS emerged as a platform to restore dignity, equality, and opportunity to the most marginalized sections of society.

Good Governance and Management

Good Governance is the key to the growth and sustainability of non-governmental organizations. It is an everlasting challenge for any organization. Governance is the process of making and enforcing rules, regulations and policies. On the other hand, Management refers to the day-to-day implementation of activities to achieve the organization’s goal.. Our organization has always prioritized good governance and good management through various performances.

In the digital age, we are trying to develop and execute the digital strategies or innovative ideas in implementation of all types of programs.
Our organization is directed and controlled by the governing body or board of directors. The board of directors establishes and administers the rules, practices and processes.
Accountability, credibility, and transparency have always been the bench-mark for SIDS.
Strategies and policies of the organization are adopted in ethical ways keeping in mind the vision and mission.
Building royalty with donors and partners as per ethical policy and core values.
Monitoring, controlling and supervision of any project by the staff and members are strictly observed.
Increasing heartfelt communications internally between staff, members, and board of directors and externally with donors, beneficiaries, stakeholders, government officials, panchayats, social activists and others.
Final audit is done by the Chartered Accountants. The audit report is always available to any member and others.
The entire management processes and practices of SIDS are in compliance with the principles of good governance.
