Women Empowerment
Empowering Rural Women through Skills and Self-Reliance in Sundarban:
Women’s equality and empowerment are key to sustainable development and a healthy society. In the Sundarban, most women depend on agriculture and lack alternative skills for livelihood. To address this, SIDS organized two times tailoring training for rural poor women in 2022–23 and 2020-21 for three months, promoting social and economic independence. Earlier, in 2020–21, SIDS also conducted handicrafts training on spice making, katha sewing, packaging, raw material collection, and exporting. These initiatives strengthened women’s self-sufficiency, decision-making power, and participation in community life.
Legal Awareness for Women’s Empowerment:
Women empowerment is a core objective of SIDS. The organization has implemented programs based on legislations enacted to protect women’s rights and promote equality in all spheres of life. SIDS conducts seminars, workshops, orientation camps, meetings, wall writing, and leaflet distribution in villages to reach semi-literate and literate women. These initiatives impart practical legal knowledge, enabling women to understand their rights, access remedies, and confidently face real-life challenges.
